There are two type of hearing loss: conductive and sensorineural.
Conductive hearing loss occurs when the actual conduction or transmission of sound is interrupted any where along the path as the sound enters the ear canal to the ear drum and small bones inside the middle ear space. Conductive hearing loss may be due to ear wax, perforation of the ear drum, fixation or loosening of the three small bones in the middle ear.
Sensorineural hearing loss occurs due to issues with the cochlea (inner ear) or the auditory nerve that connects the inner ear tothe brain. Sensorineural hearing loss may occur due to aging, noise exposure, genetics, inflammation, infection, or tumors.
