Postnasal Drip

As the name suggests, postnasal drip occurs when the mucous, which is normally swallowed unconsciously, drips from the back of your nose into the throat in heightened sensation. Mucus is necessary to moisten and clean the nasal lining, and helps fight infection. Postnasal drip may be related to allergies, acid reflux, other reactive processes, or sinus associated.

Symptoms of postnasal drip can include:

• Feeling of mucus drainage into the throat
• Sensation of something stuck in the back of the nose
• Frequent swallowing or effort in swallowing
• Throat clearing or coughing
• Raspy or gurgling voice / speech
• Throat irritation and discomfort

Jason Kim, MD, offers evaluation and treatment plans for those dealing with postnasal drip. The work up will likely involve a nasal endoscopy where a small caliber camera is inserted into the nasal cavities. He also performs IN-OFFICE procedures to alleviate the symptoms.
