Over 22 million Americans suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Sleeping disorders are more frequent in males and people who are overweight, and usually worsens with age. Most with OSA snore as well.
People with OSA are noted have pauses in their breathing pattern, lasting more than 10 seconds. The symptoms are due to upper airway narrowing or collapse. Thus, oxygen in the blood decreases and one does not get a good rest. During the day, this can lead to fatigue, inability to multitask, falling asleep, headaches, etc.
Untreated OSA can contribute to high blood pressure, pulmonary hypertension, stroke, heart disease, accidents, and more.
